LA ESPERANZA |
| |
Three kilometres north of Siguatepeque a good paved road leaves the
main CA-5 highway and heads west to LA ESPERANZA ; the route is served
by buses every couple of hours until mid-afternoon. Centre of commerce
and trade in the region and capital of the department of Intibucá, the
town livens up during the weekend market , a colourful and noisy affair,
when Lenca farmers from surrounding villages pour into town. While
there's nothing of much interest to buy, it's worth hanging around to
observe the intensive bartering and socializing that goes on. Should you
need to stay, Hotel Solis (tel 898 2080; US$5-10), one block east of the
market, has clean rooms, some with private bath. |
