While the artesenías available in Honduras may not be as wide-ranging
or as colourful as those in Guatemala, there are a number of crafts that
are instantly recognizable as Honduran. The range of carved wooden goods
, particularly those produced around Valle de Ángeles is extensive, from
simple bowls and dishes to elaborate chests and doors, while in the
highlands and around Copán ceramics , including replicas of Maya pottery
and artefacts, are produced. On the north coast the speciality is cotton
hammocks , along with Garífuna handicrafts, music and paintings. Good-quality
cigars are sold in Tegucigalpa, Santa Rosa de Copán and Copán, and a
number of companies in Tegucigapla and San Pedro Sula sell high-quality
leather goods at around half European prices.
For everyday goods, the general markets in every town usually provide a
bewildering range of cheap clothing, food and household goods. More
expensive boutiques and supermarkets are limited to Tegucigalpa and San
Pedro Sula.
