Honduras is waking up to the demand for language schools , though
it's by no means in the same league as neighboring Guatemala, with just
a few schools operating in Tegucigalpa, Copán and La Ceiba. Courses can
be taken for any length of time you choose and always include the option
of staying with a family. Schools generally also arrange cultural and
social activities.
Opportunities for paid employment are few and far between in Honduras.
Perhaps easiest to come by are jobs teaching English at one of the small
language schools - try under listings for Academias de Idiomas in the
yellow pages. On the other hand there are probably thousands of
vacancies for voluntary workers (Honduras has more Peace Corp people
than any other country in Latin America), as organizations have flooded
into Honduras to rebuild the nation after Hurricane Mitch.

Copán
Escuela de Español Ixbalanque , a block and a half west of the Parque (tel

including homestay, twenty hours of tuition and afternoon activities.
Guacamaya , three blocks north of the Parque (tel & fax 651 4360,
www.guacamaya.com ). Similar fees and courses to the Ixbalanque school.
Tegucigalpa
Conversa , Av República de Brasil 2419, Colonia Palmira (tel 236 5170,

school with flexible study programmes - twenty hours of tution plus
homestay costs US$185 per week.
